Choosing LEKI Trekking PolesUpdated 5 months ago

Selecting the most appropriate pair of LEKI trekking poles can be daunting when confronted with dozens to choose from.  But by a simple process of elimination, and making certain choices, it should be possible to narrow down your options quite easily.

All LEKI trekking poles, regardless of their construction or appearance, offer the same set of benefits, including:

  • Increased comfort: an upright posture and weight distribution to the arms and legs relieves the load on the joints, muscles, tendons and spinal column.
  • Increased endurance: greater performance capability, since each muscle is placed under reduced strain, on account of the four-point load distribution.
  • Improved safety and stability: the additional ground contact improves safety and stability on uneven terrain.
  • Increased speed/distance: by using the poles to push you forwards, you will cover the ground quicker, with less perceived effort, perhaps enabling you to walk further.

Considerations:

Your height and weight will have a bearing on your choice of LEKI trekking poles, so consider this first:

  • Generally speaking, LEKI’s Ultralite trekking poles (any model with Lite in the name – e.g. Makalu Lite) are designed for users, up to approximately 1.8m/5’10” tall and/or weighing up to 75kg/12 stone (including any pack carried) though they can, of course, use any LEKI standard trekking pole as well.
  • The women’s-specific models will suit the majority of female users.
  • With greater extension, LEKI’s standard models (without Lite in the name) models will be particularly suited to taller/heavier users, or those who intend to carry heavier loads.
  • What will you be using the poles for?  LEKI design the poles to be used for specific purposes such as Trekking, Trail Running, Skiing etc so please choose from the appropriate range.

Next, decide whether a traditional three-section telescopic model or one of LEKI’s folding models meets your requirements (we list the pros and cons of each under Types of LEKI Trekking Poles below).

Further considerations that may influence your decision include the grip construction, whether Antishock will be of benefit to you, and finally, the price.
